Nvidia Earnings Could Make Or Break This Market

The market closed Tuesday still stuck in neutral bullish territory. The indices sit at 58%, the sectors at 54, and the Big 10 basket all the way down at 12, and that spread is the single biggest issue on the board. Financials, healthcare, biotech, and the ARK ETF all look strong, but the names that actually make a good market are leaving a lot to be desired.

Today’s recap covers the two risks of being long what is currently relative strength, especially with Nvidia earnings landing tomorrow night. Either big tech weakness drags everything lower, or cash rotates back into the big boys and pulls the rug on the rotation trade.

The bigger story is the brand new QQQ weekly squeeze. These do not tend to fire the next day, and they do not tend to end in small moves: the basic ATR targets sit near $780 on the upside and $600 on the downside.

The full breakdown, with every chart and level, is in the video below.

Do NOT Buy the QQQ Dip Until This Happens…

There is a lot to like about this market and one thing that keeps me from getting aggressive. Biotech, healthcare, $XLP, energy and $ARKK are all in great shape. Unfortunately, none of them move the needle much in the $SPY or the $QQQ. The group that does, the $SMH, is second to last on my board at negative 8% of its strongest score, and until that changes I am staying patient.

The number I care about into Friday is $575 in the $SMH. Reclaim it and hold it, and the odds go up that they fire a two day and a three day squeeze long and finally get that bullish MACD shift. Lose it and they are taking out key daily levels and the 50 SMA on the two day time frame, which usually means more downside first.

Volume is how you tell whether real money is behind a move or whether it is just drifting, and that is exactly the difference between a breakout worth taking and one worth skipping. In a recent session, Raghee walks through how she reads volume with her Volume Max 2.0 toolkit. If you want confirmation before you chase, spend the hour on this one.

The A+ Broadcom Squeeze I Just Bought on the Flush

The Scorecard has us at market bullish, and I’ll take it. What I want to point out is where the strength is coming from: energy, financials, healthcare, biotech, materials and industrials. Big tech and the big chips are along for the ride, not driving it. $SMH sits at a 30, $XLK at a 60, and the Big 10 basket is running at just 25% of its best score. That’s a very different market than April or May.

The trade I like most right now is $AVGO for October, bought into the flush. They flipped the MACD negative back in June and this is the first shift back to the buy side since then, so I finally have the squeeze, the structure and the trend together, 15 points out of 15. I’m wrong below $395 to $400, and if the two-day fires with the three-day and weekly behind it, the path runs into $500 and change.

Why I Bought NVDA Calls Before AMD Earnings

What a difference a few days makes. The S&P 500 and the Dow both printed brand new all-time highs today, and the bear trap I flagged on QQQ last week played out exactly the way bulls wanted: shorts got roped under the weekly 21 EMA, and price snapped right back above the key level.

My line in the sand has not changed. Above $680 on $QQQ, the bulls have the ball, the 3-day squeeze is in great shape, and a buy trigger opens the door toward $780. Back under $680, I think we roll over and take out the recent lows.

The chips are where the action is. I’m holding the Nvidia December $200 calls I picked up yesterday, and I break down the squeeze setups stacking up in $AVGO, $TSM, and $AMD ahead of tonight’s earnings report, plus slingshot squeeze candidates like $DELL and $HPE. With the market this stretched, I’m staying patient and letting the triggers come to me.

I lay out the full game plan, level by level, in today’s video.
